- I am 30 years old and I have segmental vitiligo. I am from Lorain,Ohio.I was 11 when I noticed my first spot on my left leg. I remember my dad saying he thought it was ring worm. All I remember after that is it spread so fast it ended up on the left side of my body up to the middle of my back. I was only 11!The doctors prescribed me pills and creams to try to get it to go away! I tried UV lights, even went to the Cleveland Clinic to get answers.My self-esteem when straight down hill after realizing this thing is now part of me.I found a doctor in Cincinnati when I was 17 and thought I will never be in Cincinnati so I just gave up. I went to the military after high school and later met my husband in 2002 that just happened to be from Cincinnati!I met the doctor but he said he didn't do the procedure anymore. After crying in his office he agreed to do it for me just one time.He perfor'med a suction blister procedure where he took skin from my thighs to place over just a couple of the spots.We didn't get a lot of skin like we thought we would, so it didn't cover up as much as I would have liked but I thought this means there is hope for me to be "normal".

Hi Kelly, My name is Jamie and im from the UK. Lincolnshire to be precice. Im 18 and ive had vitiligo since around the age of 9. It first appeared on both my ankles and but i didnt think much of it at first, then on both my knees, hips and elbows. Throughout my teenage life its remained pretty much stagnant until recently when i noticed a small patch at the side of my mouth and im very afraid more will soon start to appear. I tried anti-vitiligo oil when i was about 15. It irritated my skin and smelt bad but i did start to see very small patches of repigmentation on both my hips and one elbow after about 2 months of use. Next i tried vitiligo-tab, its a pill you take twice a day and i did for about three months but saw no improvement. More recently ive been looking a studies at king's cross college in London that say peperine (the active ingredient in pepper) stimulates repigmentation. Also there have studies that show links between folic acid, vitamin b12, vitamin b5 deficiencies in the bodys of vitiligo sufferers. Another thing you might want to look at is an online book written by a man whos daughter had vitiligo and cured it. I havnt read it but i will be doing so soon. go to google and type in 'Emily's Vitiligo' i think its the one above geocities. Deletei have vitiligo on the entire right side of my stomach. i have had it since birth and as i have grown it grows with me. in childhood i was ashamed but as i grew older i learned to embrace it. my question is are tatoos safe on that area i have done research and son say that it links to cancer/melenoma ect. did you talk to a dermatoligist before you got your tatoo?

Im 27 and just got diagnosed with vit last year after coming back the tropics. I love to fish and surf and be out in the sun, so u can imagine what its going to be like now living in San Diego. It is a complete lifestyle change, but im just glad to still be alive and not have a worse autoimmune disease. Good luck and thank you for posting on youtube.

DeleteHey , im 15 years old and ive had this diesease since i was about 9 years old. its all over my face and its terrible however i began using vitamin supplements that target specifically what vitiligo patients lack. it is called Recouleur. i have been using it for 6 months and i have seen a significant improvement hopefuly within another 6 months it will be completely gone. TRY IT OUT !
ReplyDeleteHi, im 37 years old and have vitiligo since 11 years and live in Mauritius. When i start having it the doctor at that time didn't know the name of the disease. But i made a search on the net about 5 years ago and find out the name of the disease call Vitiligo. At that time there were no treatment available but last year i visited National Vitiligo Foundation and found about vitamin supplement since then i been using Vitamin B12 , Folic Acid & Vitamin C. As the site suggest that pantothenic acid also good but not avaliable in my country. I have been taking these vitamin 2 capsule per day since October 2008 and now in Setember 2009 i must say i had some improvement, some had disappread but some still the same. Now in my county they are selling Recouleur which i know also good as some people are getting cure with it. I am now using a product from www.merryclinic.com is call vitilax , i have been using the product since Feb 2009 u have to take 6 capsule twice daily but up to now no improvements but i order the vitiligo oil from the same side , as it suggest to use it with the sun exposure, after doing 2 session in the sun for 30 minutes i have started getting pigmentation on some of my patches.
ReplyDeleteI would recomend you to try the oil from merryclinic and the Recouleur capsule. Well i must say you are very brave to post your story on the net. As for me i dont live my home without cosmetic makeup on my fingers.
One thing , don't give up , keep fighting as these treatment may not work for you in 6 months time but might work in 9 or 10 months time, i have seen people with vitiligo getting cure with Homeopaty which unfortunately did not work for me!!!
I have decrease my social life beause of this desease.

Hey Kelly. My name is Tatiana and I have had vitiligo since i was about 7 years old. I had it on my eye lids, my legs, my face and hands. I am 20 now and I only have it on my ankle on my left foot and the back of my right leg VERY VERY similar almost exact to your left leg and also my whole right foot. I have tried everything I have come across. For about 3 years now I have been wanting to tattoo over my vitiligo. ankles and now on the wrist. It has started about a year ago.
I was given a few steroid creams from the dermatologist. I have seen
no improvement other than the patches turn reddish.
I understand that vitiligo is not the end of the world. My father-in-law
actually has had it since he was young. Nevertheless, my worries
are because he is young, what could happen to his self-esteem?
I started reading on the merry clinic website, can anyone
out there direct me whether its a good product? What about (Rocouleur)
What about starting on some type of vitamin program?
I'm scared for him, and don't know how to even start and help me.
He tells me that kids ask him all the time (what's that?) He tells
me "mom its no big deal, just spots from me falling all the time"

I have vitiligo since last 13 yrs, tried many medicines. It slowed down the spreading, but my existing spots are still there like in hands back, feet, lips. I used a medicine named "lukoskin." this medicine claims to cure within 300-400 days of treatment, but there are a lot of dietary restrictions, but when we want to get rid of this terrible thing, diet should not be a constraint.
